Dr. Sam Jejurikar explains how to restore your pre-pregnancy figure with a Mommy Makeover in Dallas, TX

Is your family complete and now you’re considering a Mommy Makeover? Or maybe you’re just curious about which procedures are included in this trendy treatment? Well, a Mommy Makeover with Dr. Jejurikar in Dallas, TX, typically includes a breast augmentation and breast lift, as well as a tummy tuck and liposuction, but you can customize the included procedures to achieve your personal aesthetic goals. Many women also opt for treatments that target their thighs, buttocks, and upper arms, all of which may be dramatically affected by rapid pregnancy-related weight fluctuations.

With the mommy makeover approach, we can combine and perform multiple procedures to contour your body, working to combat any lingering physical changes brought on by pregnancy. While your breasts and abdomen are most often the areas in need of postpartum rejuvenation, you can mix and match techniques to deliver tailor-made results.

How can a mommy makeover benefit me?

After one or multiple pregnancies, your body may look different, even if you return to your pre-baby weight and follow a strict diet and exercise program. While you’re pregnant, and particularly if you breastfeed, your breast volume expands rapidly—sometimes by as much as a full cup size. Then, when you wean your child, you lose that volume just as quickly, leaving behind noticeable sagging.

At the same time, your abdomen changes throughout your pregnancy, stretching its skin, tissue, and muscles in order to accommodate your growing baby. But, after delivery, your muscles may not come back together quite the way you’d hoped, leaving you with loose or “extra” skin, even after shedding your baby weight.

At this point, you may benefit from a Mommy Makeover—these combined surgical procedures can help restore your pre-pregnancy figure in ways that aren’t possible with diet and exercise alone. And so, when you opt for a Mommy Makeover with Dr. Jejurikar in Dallas, you may finally feel like your “old self” again. Perhaps for the first time since you learned you were pregnant!

What about stretch marks?

During your pregnancy, you may have developed stretch marks on your abdomen, thighs, and arms. These are simply signs that your body grew so quickly, the top layer of your skin didn’t have time to catch up. As a result, the pulling left you with visible scarring—and that likely won’t clear up with topical products alone.

Depending on the location of your stretch marks, a Mommy Makeover may be able to eliminate this frustrating after-effect of pregnancy. Arm, thigh, and breast lifts can eliminate stretch marks in those delicate areas, while tummy tucks can eliminate pregnancy scarring on your abdomen.

Am I a good candidate for the procedure?

When you come in for a Mommy Makeover consultation with Dr. Sam Jejurikar, we’ll make sure this surgical approach is a good fit for your health and aesthetic goals. But, generally speaking, you should meet these criteria before undergoing this group of cosmetic procedures.

  • Be close to or at your goal weight
  • Avoid smoking and heaving drinking
  • Finished having children
  • Come in with realistic goals for your final results

How do I prepare for my Mommy Makeover?

Before undergoing this group of procedures, try to avoid cigarettes and alcohol. Heavy usage can lead to complications during your surgeries and can also extend your recovery time.

If you must be in the sun, be sure to use plenty of sunscreens, as sunburn could stress your body and leave you in more pain following your procedures. Try to avoid crowded areas or individuals who aren’t feeling well since Dr. Jejurikar may need to delay or reschedule your procedures if you fall ill.

During this time, you’ll also want to book yourself some post-procedure downtime—you’ll need to rest for at least a few weeks after your Mommy Makeover, so make sure someone can cover your work responsibilities and enlist some help to care for your children. Use the days before your surgery to fill all your prescriptions and to prepare your recovery area to maximize your comfort and ability to rest.

Be sure to fuel your body with high-quality foods. And don’t forget to hydrate, as additional fluids can help your recovery go smoothly. Finally, make sure to ask a friend or loved one to be on call the day of your procedure, as you won’t be able to drive yourself home, and you may need some additional support in the early hours of recovery.

What happens the day of the surgery?

On the day of your procedure, you’ll arrive at our Dallas Plastic Surgery Institute or at a local hospital, depending on the scope of procedures you’ve selected.

Before beginning, Dr. Jejurikar will make sure you’re comfortable by offering either sedation, local or general anesthesia, under the care of a dedicated anesthesiologist.

During your Mommy Makeover, we’ll carefully ensure your safety by monitoring all your vitals and ensuring your body is coping with the stress of surgery. Once the operations are complete, we’ll dress any incisions and insert surgical drains if they’re needed.

Afterward, we’ll take you to our recovery area for close monitoring. Finally, before releasing you to your loved one, we’ll teach you how to care for all your incision sites and how to empty, reset and monitor your drains, if applicable.

In some cases, you may go home on the same day as your procedure. In other cases, you may need to spend one or two nights in hospital or in a Dallas aftercare center in order to ensure your full recovery.

What will my recovery look like?

Right after your procedures, you can expect to experience pain and swelling, but Dr. Jejurikar will help you stay comfortable with responsible pain management prescriptions. Expect your discomfort to be quite intense during the first week, with slow improvements over the next two weeks. By your fourth week following a Mommy Makeover, you should feel like yourself again, but you still won’t be allowed to engage in heavy lifting until your six-week post-operative check-up. (And that ban includes picking up your toddlers!)

How long will the results last?

While most of your swelling should resolve within five weeks of your Mommy Makeover, you may not see your full results until three months following these procedures. Some of those results are permanent, while others may eventually need revisions. The timeline for your outcomes will depend on the combination of procedures you select, as well as your decisions following a Mommy Makeover.

Typically, liposuction results are permanent. Still, if you experience significant weight gain after surgery, you may form new fat cells in already-treated areas. Breast augmentations, on the other hand, aren’t considered permanent. Yet, with proper post-surgical care, you won’t have to think about revision for at least ten years.

What if I have another child?

Undergoing a mommy makeover won’t limit your ability to become pregnant again. And having these procedures should not affect the way you feel if you do become pregnant afterward, though some women say their abdomen feels tighter in post-Mommy Makeover pregnancies, whether or not they were planned. The most important factor to consider is that carrying another baby will dramatically change the results of your initial surgery, which is why we recommend waiting until your family is complete before seeking out this cosmetic procedure.
